Job Purpose

The Responsibilities of this role will include but not limited to the following:

  • Supervising daily and scheduled maintenance and Breakdown repair of underground mobile equipment such as loaders (LHDs), haul trucks, drills, utility vehicles etc.
  • Coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize downtime and optimize equipment availability.
  • Reviewing and prioritize work orders, assign tasks to maintenance technicians, and ensure timely completion.
  • Ensuring adherence to planned maintenance schedules and assist in developing short-term maintenance plans with planners/schedulers.
  • Conducting regular inspections of mobile machines to identify potential issues before failure.
  • Ensure all required tools and tackles availability in workshop facility and keep the workshop in proper order with respect to safety and environmental compliances.
  • Providing direct supervision, mentoring, and performance feedback to mechanics, electricians, and service personnel.
  • Promoting a strong safety culture, teamwork, and accountability among maintenance crews.
  • Ensuring all maintenance personnel are properly trained and certified for assigned tasks and equipment.
  • Supporting workforce development by identifying training needs and skill gaps.
  • Working closely with reliability engineers and planners to identify recurring issues and develop long-term solutions.
  • Ensuring maintenance data (e.g., work orders, component hours, failure codes) is accurately captured in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Participating in root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment availability and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Equipment wise health and performance report as per the prescribed format to be prepared and submitted to the planner and ensure proper handover takeover with the next shift foreman.
  • Enforcing all company and regulatory safety procedures, ensuring that maintenance work is performed in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Conducting pre-task risk assessments and toolbox talks with maintenance teams.
  • Reporting and investigate equipment failures, incidents, and near-misses; recommend corrective actions.

To be considered for this position, the candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Diploma in Heavy Equipment Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Certification as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Member of Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
  • All academic and profession qualification should be verified and certified by Zambia Qualifications Authority.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in maintenance of underground mobile mining equipment.
  • At least 2–3 years in a supervisory or foreman role in an underground metal mining operation.
  • Strong knowledge of mobile mining equipment such as Sandvik, Epiroc, Caterpillar, Bell etc. fleets.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems of heavy mobile equipment.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, service manuals, and equipment schematics
  • Proficiency in English speaking and writing.

The successful candidate must be result oriented and have the ability to work with own initiative, ability to understand scope of work, paying particular attention to Company policies and Corporate objectives.
