  • One of the deepest shafts ever sunk in Zambia at 1547metres
  • Total project cost circa US$ 277 million
  • Commenced in 2014
  • Shaft development completed in March 2019 and currently hoisting waste and ore
  • Shaft has a hoisting capacity of 3million tonnes per annum once production is ramped up
  • The project has added at least 25 years to the economic life of the Mufulira Mine, and expected to:
    1. Sustain current jobs with a possibility of creating new jobs
    2. Protect various businesses that are mining related in Mufulira and beyond
    3. Sustain Mopani’s contribution to national development
