DEC CONDUCTS SUBSTANCE ABUSE SENSITISATION FOR MOPANI EMPLOYEES
The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) recently conducted a sensitisation tour at the Mopani Copper Mines PLC Mufulira People Growth Centre, engaging employees to strengthen awareness on the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of leading healthy, disciplined and productive lives.
The DEC team participated in the TukaChimfya Pamo (TCP) alignment session, a mindset change programme aimed at fostering ownership, positive attitudes, discipline, teamwork and personal responsibility across the company’s operations.
Speaking during the session, DEC Investigations Officer for Education, Ms. Sitwala Mebelo, urged employees to remain steadfastly away from alcohol and drug abuse, both at the workplace and in their personal lives. She emphasised that substance abuse not only undermines performance and safety but also harms families and deteriorates mental wellbeing.
“Mindset change begins with personal decisions. Every employee has a responsibility to protect themselves, their families and their colleagues by living a drug-free life,” Ms. Mebelo said.
She further clarified that while the DEC actively combats drug trafficking and abuse, the Commission also offers counselling and rehabilitation support services to members of the public at no cost.
Ms. Mebelo assured employees that counselling services provided by the DEC are strictly confidential and encouraged anyone struggling with substance abuse to seek help without fear or stigma.
“The role of the Drug Enforcement Commission is not only to arrest offenders, but also to educate, guide and help people make better life choices. We offer counselling services at no cost, and all information shared is treated with strict confidentiality. We want communities and workplaces to remain safe, healthy and productive,” she added.
Ms. Mebelo also commended the TukaChimfya Pamo (TCP) initiative for promoting positive behavioural change among employees, noting that programmes of this nature are critical in building disciplined and responsible communities.
The DEC visit reflects Mopani Copper Mines PLC’s continued commitment to employee wellbeing, workplace safety and positive mindset transformation through the TCP programme.
By working together with the DEC, Mopani is reinforcing a disciplined, responsible and drug-free workforce, supporting a safer, healthier and more productive working environment for all.
