MOPANI RECORDS HIGHEST MONTHLY PRODUCTION IN 2 YEARS
Mopani Copper Mines PLC has recorded its highest monthly ore production in two years, producing 289,000 tonnes of ore in June 2026, while also surpassing its own-source finished copper production target for the month.
The company produced 5,140 metric tonnes of copper cathode from its own feed, exceeding its June target of 5,104 metric tonnes.
Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Charles Sakanya said the June performance reflects the company’s growing operational strength and the impact of ongoing transformation initiatives.
“What makes this achievement particularly significant is that it was attained completely with our own material, which marks a major shift away from our previous reliance on third-party toll treatment. Until recently, our finished copper production relied almost equally on third-party toll treatment. Reducing that dependence while exceeding our production target demonstrates the progress we are making across our operations,” Mr. Sakanya said.
Mr. Sakanya attributed the improved performance to operational innovations implemented across the mine, sustained shareholder investment from International Resources Holding (IRH) and ZCCM-IH, and a stronger culture of execution among employees.
“Over the past several months, we have challenged ourselves to operate differently – with greater discipline, urgency and collaboration. Our performance during the final two weeks of June, when we consistently achieved around 11,000 tonnes of ore per day, demonstrates what our teams are capable of when we execute at our best,” he explained.
Building on this momentum, Mopani has set an ambitious July production target of 7,155 metric tonnes of finished copper from its own feed, as the company continues to accelerate its operational turnaround.
“June gives us confidence that we are building sustainable momentum. While there is still work ahead, these results reinforce our belief that Mopani is on the right trajectory and that we are steadily unlocking the full potential of our assets and our people,” Mr. Sakanya said.
The June production results represent another important milestone in Mopani’s recovery strategy and highlight the positive impact of continued shareholder investment aimed at restoring, stabilising and expanding copper production.
