The Company Seeks the Services of an Assistant Blasting Engineer x1

Job Purpose

The Responsibilities of this role will include but not limited to the following:

  • Provides effective /efficient assistance to blasting crews concerning blasting/charging operations through an understanding of the characteristics of rock and types of explosives to improve the fragmentation of the rock.
  • Introduces effective drilling /charging/blasting practices for blasting crews to apply to control wastage and save company money.
  • Responsible for safety of his subordinates to ensure that explosives users observe Explosives Regulations.
  • Carries out trials on new explosives, latest drilling/charging /blasting techniques and reports findings to management for decision-making.
  • Imparts knowledge in staff concerned with blasting operations on how to properly handle explosives to avoid misfires.
  • Ensures that Mining Explosives Regulations are observed by concerned staff to avoid accidents. Liase with representatives of explosives manufacturers concerning explosives matters to keep abreast with changes.
  • Supervises subordinates engaged in controlling explosives utilization/conducting miscellaneous blasting activities on surface to ensure compliance.
  • Analyses drilling dopes from Mining Department operating officials of stopes, end, etc. to be blasted and determines the amount of explosives to be charged to avoid.
  • Ensures that Mining Explosives Regulations are observed by concerned staff to avoid accidents. Drive the health, safety and environment standards/policy awareness and practice in the Department to ensure compliance.

To be considered for this position, the candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • Degree/Diploma in Mining Engineering.
  • Valid Blasting License.
  • Should have knowledge in blasting engineering and must have worked in the same position for not less than 2 years.
  • Must have good Analytical and Numerical Modelling skills.
  • All academic qualifications should be verified and certified by Zambia Qualifications Authority.

The successful candidate must be result oriented and have the ability to work with own initiative, ability to understand scope of work, paying particular attention to Company policies and corporate objectives.
