Job Purpose
The Responsibilities of this role will include but not limited to the following:
- Interpretation of geological data and advise on short and long term mine production.
- Stope design and ore grade estimation using applicable mining software (Surpac).
- Monitoring stope performance at various draw points through recommended sampling procedures and making sure ore dilution is minimized.
- Assist Senior Geologist in planning diamond drill hole design, monitoring contractor drilling programmes and logging boreholes.
- Carry out drill core sampling, supervise underground channel sampling, QAQC and sample dispatch to the mine laboratory.
- Capturing diamond drill hole and channel sampling data into the acQuire database.
- Underground mapping of geological structures and lithological units.
- Supervise updating of all plans and sections by the geology draughtsman.
- Getting involved in mine dewatering and monitoring / management of underground water from dewatering levels.
- Compile month end reports and ensure all relevant data is captured and is up to date.
- Attend production meetings (especially in the absence of senior geologist).
- Train, develop and motivate subordinates and maintain sound industrial relations and discipline in the section.
- Drive the health, safety and environment standards/policy awareness and practice in the Department to ensure compliance.
- Adhering to all other assignments that are given and are lawful and fair.
To be considered for this position, the candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent.
- Bachelor of Mineral Sciences degree in geology.
- Member of Geological Society of Zambia or Engineering Institution of Zambia.
- One (01) year experience in the mining industry.
- A minimum of one (01) year relevant experience in grade control and production Geology.
The successful candidate must be result oriented and have the ability to work with own initiative, ability to understand scope of work, paying particular attention to Company policies and corporate objectives.
