Job Purpose
The Responsibilities of this role will include but not limited to the following:
- Leading and supervising fixed plant maintenance teams in daily, weekly, and shutdown maintenance activities.
- Ensuring adherence to planned maintenance schedules and prioritize work to minimize production downtime.
- Allocating tasks, monitor work execution, and ensure maintenance activities meet required standards.
- Overseeing maintenance of crushing stations, conveyors, winders, compressors, dewatering systems, ventilation fans, and related infrastructure.
- Coordinating with mining and processing departments to align maintenance timing with production requirements.
- Reviewing and interpreting technical drawings, equipment manuals, and specifications for maintenance tasks.
- Supporting the implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance programs (using CMMS or similar systems).
- Participating in root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensuring that critical spares and consumables are available by coordinating with the warehouse and procurement teams.
- Assisting in planning and executing major shutdowns or overhauls.
- Conducting risk assessments and job safety analyses before maintenance tasks.
- Identifying and report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly and participate in investigations.
- Supervising, train, and mentor maintenance personnel, ensuring skill development and high team performance.
- Monitoring attendance, performance, and work quality of team members.
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Preparing shift reports, work orders, and maintenance summaries.
- Providing input into budget planning and cost control measures.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to optimize plant reliability and maintenance efficiency.
To be considered for this position, the candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Trade qualification as a Fitter, Millwright, or Mechanical Technician (or equivalent).
- Certificate or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance Management.
- Minimum 10–12 years’ experience in fixed plant maintenance in the mining or heavy industrial sector, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
- Strong knowledge of crushing and conveying systems, winders, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, pumps, compressors, and associated fixed plant equipment.
- Familiarity with maintenance planning systems (e.g., SAP, AMT, Pronto, or similar CMMS).
- Sound understanding of maintenance strategies (preventive, predictive, and corrective).
- Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) principles.
- Competence in MS Office and basic computer literacy.
- Proficiency in English speaking and writing.
- Member of Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
- All academic and profession qualification should be verified and certified by Zambia Qualifications Authority.
- Holder of a valid First Aid Certificate.
- Strong knowledge of crushing and conveying systems, winders, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, pumps, compressors, and associated fixed plant equipment.
- Good oral & written Communication Skills.
