Job Purpose
The Responsibilities of this role will include but not limited to the following:
• Maintain high levels of accuracy and precision of laboratory data
• Timely communication of laboratory results with internal and external clients and open communication to promptly resolve queries as and when they arise.
• Determine the relationships of chemical and physical properties, composition, structures and reactions of organic and inorganic compounds using chromatography, spectrophotometry and spectroscopy techniques.
• Develop, improve and customize equipment, products, formulas, safe working procedures and stressors monitoring processes
• Carry out non-routine specialist analyses, investigations and produce written occupational hygiene technical reports and recommendations.
• Performs routine and non-routine activity area sampling and analysis of field samples and related area inspections to required standards of speed, accuracy and precision to enable the department to maintain a satisfactory service guarantee to user departments and external clients.
• Conduct health risk analysis and verification of in-coming chemical substances from suppliers to ensure the end user departments accepts less toxic inputs that meet health specifications.
• Conducts research into improving present occupational hygiene operational practices that meet the international occupational hygiene standards.
• Evaluate and develops new methods to ensure that the section is using the most efficient techniques available
• Drive the health, safety and environment standards/policy awareness and practice in the Department to ensure compliance.
To be considered for this position, the candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:
• Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.
• BSc Degree in Chemistry or Equivalent (Science Laboratory Technology with other courses) from a recognizable university
• All academic qualification should be verified and certified by Zambia Qualifications Authority
• Minimum three years’ experience in Analytical/Industrial Laboratory of a Mining Industry
• Computer literate
• Knowledge of LIMS and SHEQ Systems (ISO 9001; ISO14001; ISO17025; ISO45001) will be an added advantage
• Team management skills; Good interpersonal skills, Influencing & communication skills, Planning, coordination and controlling skills.
• Should have knowledge in use of Microsoft projects, word, excel, power point as tools to enhance scheduling, presentation, tracking and management of all projects.
• Previous experience of X-ray Diffraction operations will be an added advantage.
The successful candidate must be result oriented and have the ability to work with own initiative, ability to understand scope of work, paying particular attention to Company policies and Corporate objectives.
