MOPANI DONATES 80 COMPUTERS TO 8 MUFULIRA AND KITWE SCHOOLS
Mopani Copper Mines PLC has donated 80 computers to eight schools in Kitwe and Mufulira, utilising proceeds from the 2025 IRH-Mopani Challenge Cup tournament.
Each school will receive 10 computers to enhance ICT learning for students.
The beneficiary schools in Kitwe include Kalela Combined School, Chamboli Secondary, Rokana School, and Nkana School. In Mufulira, the recipients are Kantanshi Secondary, Kasumba Basic School, Ipusukilo Secondary, and Mine Basic School.
Speaking during a handover ceremony of the computers to the schools held at Mopani Central Offices yesterday, Mopani Chief Services Officer Mr Oscar Matebele, emphasised that investing in education is vital for community prosperity.
He stated, “In a world where technology shapes opportunities, access to digital tools is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity. By providing these computers, we are helping to bridge the digital divide and equip the country’s future leaders with the tools they need to compete, create, and thrive.”
Mr Matebele explained that the donation is aligned with the 2025 IRH-Mopani Challenge Cup theme of empowering generations from classrooms to community care, which is also a reminder that investing in education is investing in the wellbeing and prosperity of the entire communities.
IRH Group Head of HSE and Governance, Mr. Ulrich Silbilski, revealed that the 2025 IRH-Mopani Challenge Cup raised over K1.4 million through sponsorship and ticket sales from the two-legged tournament held at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe and Shinde Stadium in Mufulira, significantly surpassing last year’s total of K450,872.54.
He expressed gratitude to sponsors and partners for their support in uplifting Mopani’s host communities.
Representing the Kitwe and Mufulira Education Board Secretaries, Clement Chonza, Dean of Copperbelt Head Teachers and head teacher of Ipusukilo Secondary School, thanked Mopani for the donation.
He noted that Ipusukilo Secondary School had its first-ever ICT candidates sit for examinations, making the computers particularly timely.
Meanwhile, Bertha Mutale, Business Development Manager at QRENT Zambia, expressed pride in supporting education through technology.
She added that the company’s decision to contribute by providing the computers at a discounted rate stemmed from their desire to promote access to information technology for all and their commitment to eco-friendly IT solutions.
