NKANA SECURITY AND MUFULIRA REFINERY CROWNED MOPANI FIRST AID CHAMPIONS

Mopani Copper Mines PLC’s Nkana Security and Mufulira Refinery First Aid teams will represent the Company at the 2026 Zambia Chamber of Mines Council for First Aid Inter-Company First Aid Competition, scheduled for 25th July 2026 at Barrick Lumwana Mine in Kalumbila.

The two teams earned the honour after winning the Mopani Mufulira Mine Site Inter-departmental First Aid Competition and the Mopani Nkana Mine Site Inter-departmental First Aid Competition, both held on Saturday, 4th July 2026.

The competitions brought together teams from across Mopani and contractor companies to demonstrate their emergency response skills, casualty management techniques and teamwork in reaffirming Mopani’s unwavering commitment to promoting workplace safety and emergency preparedness.

“The safety of our employees is our number one priority. Each employee must be guaranteed to return home to their families safely and in good health at the end of each shift,” said Mopani Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Charles P. Sakanya.

“It is for this reason that we continue to empower all employees to refuse to perform any work deemed unsafe. Our motto remains the same: “If it’s not safe, don’t do it! Make it safe, then do it!”

Mopani has invested heavily in first aid training with the Company currently having 19 Gold Medalists, 72 Silver Medalists, 139 Advanced Certificate holders and 4,130 General Certificate holders from a workforce of 14,607 employees, representing approximately 30 percent of the workforce trained in first aid. Furthermore, out of 3,497 legally appointed Mopani officers, 2,501 hold valid first aid certificates, translating into 72 percent compliance.

Mr. Sakanya urged employees and business partners to remain steadfast in upholding safe work practices to help Mopani achieve its vision of becoming a World Champion Mine Through BEST values.
“Let us continue to observe [and comply with] all the safety procedures to ensure that we achieve our goal of ‘Zero Harm’ across our operations,” he said.

At the prize presentation, members of the winning teams received smart televisions, cash prizes and individual medals. The runners-up (Nkana Processing and Mufulira Mining) received 210-litre deep freezers, cash prizes and individual shields, while the third-placed teams (Nkana SOB and Mufulira Engineering) received mountain bicycles and cash prizes. The fourth-placed teams (Nkana Engineering and Mufulira Security) were each awarded microwaves.

Mr. Sakanya congratulated the winning teams and urged them to prepare adequately for the Inter-Company First Aid Competition.

“Congratulations to Nkana Security and Mufulira Refinery First Aid teams! For you, the real work begins now! As you prepare to carry the Company’s vision and aspirations at the national competition, we wish you every success,” Mr. Sakanya said.
